New Journal Poll: Gregg Hull Leads Republican Primary Field for New Mexico Governor

RIO RANCHO, New Mexico – A new Albuquerque Journal poll released today shows Gregg Hull, former mayor of Rio Rancho, leading the three-way Republican primary race for governor of New Mexico. The poll, conducted by Albuquerque-based Research & Polling Inc., found Hull with 30% support among Republican and independent voters likely to cast ballots in the June 2 primary – more than any other candidate in the field. His lead has grown by nine points since the last poll conducted by KRQE Television and Emerson College.

Hull’s lead was especially pronounced in the state’s most populous areas. He holds a commanding advantage over his rivals in both the Albuquerque metro area and the north-central New Mexico region, where his 12 years serving as Rio Rancho’s mayor built deep name recognition and a strong record of results for families and businesses.

“New Mexicans are ready for real leadership, and this poll reflects the momentum we’ve built across the state,” said Hull. “We’re going to keep earning the trust of every voter – in every corner of New Mexico – between now and June 2.”

With early voting opening Tuesday, May 5, Hull’s campaign is focused on turning enthusiasm into votes statewide. The poll found 40% of Republican primary voters still undecided, underscoring the importance of continued outreach and voter contact in the final weeks before the June 2 election.

The Journal Poll was conducted by Research & Polling Inc. and surveyed Republican and independent likely voters ahead of New Mexico’s first-ever semi-open primary, which allows unaffiliated voters to participate in either party’s primary without changing their registration.
